New Crisis Response Team

Transforming crisis intervention into compassionate care: Unarmed Crisis Response (UMCR) is officially live in District 2/Studio City.

Council member Adrin Nazarian announced that instead of sending armed police, UMCR dispatches trained mental health clinicians and outreach workers for nonviolent mental health, emotional distress, and substance use calls. According to Nazarian’s office, this approach safely de-escalates crises, reduces violence risks, and ensures law enforcement can focus on active public safety threats.

The Impact So Far (City of Los Angeles):

• 30,070 calls diverted since launch
• 27:34 average response time
• 15:22 average time spent on scene

When calling 911, nonviolent behavioral health crises are now routed directly to specialized crisis teams from Exodus Recovery Inc.
